Namma Kannada

Was searching here and there,
and found my language no where,
People of different colour, different attire,
Are in their Vehicles on 2 and 4 tyres,
that was the crowd filled place,
looks like too many things in a small case,
Place of IT Gurus,
Yes I landed in there,Namma Bengaluru.....

Bangalore a Green City, a Silicon City, a IT hub, a Cross culture hub, is a place of huge crowd from different places. People come from variety of places to work, stay, and make their careers and future here. So does this cross culturing effects the Namma Bengaluru Culture, mainly what will be local language of the city after some days is today's my question.

The Language:

The local language here is Kannada. But most of the people are confused, and they assume local language as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English and what not. Hence Kannada is slwoly growing to be the ruins of Bengaluru.
I once asked a person to show me the way to the main road, and I kept my mouth shut when he requested me very kindly to speak not in Kannada. Hotels, Restaurents, Shops, Petrol bunks, Shopping COmplexes, IT companies have no clue about the language Kannada.
Goverment has taken steps to improve this staus. They have made the a rule to display up a commercial building or shop or a company name in Kannada. They have raised several funds to improve Kannada. They have made Kannada as a compulsary language in all the Schools. The Awareness programs during some special occasions are also being conducted.
But still this is hung up freeze mode. Do the people from other state harm the language? are the localites still here in the city? Will Kannada be a prominent language here in the near future?

The Answer would not sure. The main reason that Kannada is not in the market, are the localites. Yes this is shocking but true. There are very less localites who have stayed here in the city and hence this might be one of the reason. And most of the youngsters also some of the mid aged people have a craze to the western languages. They follow English words and sometimes even overtake the English alphabets.
A Visit to the shopping mall would make them feel as a foriegner and they start their chit chat in English. They will feel low if they talk in the local language, some feel underestimated if you discuss about the Kannada movies or songs or some Kannada dramas with them. Parents at home teach the kids English right from whne the kids come out to the concrete roads. Kids are told only to converse in English and they will be punished if they didnt.
While the crowd from other places are really putting their efforts to use the language either for fun or for their improvement. They are keen in learning the language.

So the language can retain its ranking by we the localites joining the hands together with the guests from other places.

Short and very less topics are covered, for continuation see this column.....
