The govt of India has finally declared the 2009 yr as the drought year.
As many as 170 districts out of over 600 have been declared as hit by drought.
India’s economy relies heavily on agriculture. It accounts for about 17 percent of the gross domestic product.
But sitll, Rainwater is key to crop survival and the livelihoods of those who work the farms.
Sixty-five percent of farmers in India rely on rainwater.
Several indian crops have been destroyed due to the scarcity of water.
The saddest part here is that inspite of knowing the fact that the whole economy is dependent on Agriculture, govt has neglected this area till today.
Every year we hear cases of farmers commiting suicides due to drought, but till now govt. has no solution.
Till when our farmers are expected to commit suicides?
When will their life improve?
It is high time, infrastructure should be developed so that, farmers need not fully depend on monsoon.
