Swine flu, is it over hyped?

Swine flu has become a joke now; anyone who has cough thinks he has swine flu. It has become a fashion statement to wear mask. Masks are out of stock. Thanks to the media

Though swine flu is a serious epidemic that has spread in western countries but it is hyped in India for sure. Big Pharmacy are cashing on it.

Doctors said the Influenza A/H1N1 virus is curable and is very mild in most cases. The H1N1 virus is known to have a very low fatality rate — less than 0.1 per cent — while severe forms of TB can kill up to 20 per cent of infected patients.

On an average day, around 4000 people die of respiratory diseases and infections.Swine flu has killed less that 100 Indians so far.If we compare death due to swine flu with this number, it is almost Zero, but still there is unwarranted panic generated by media.

Why is such Hype??

Why do the media overflow with news of swine flu while ignoring other diseases that kill thousands every day?

Because those everyday diseases are the problems of the poorer half of India, and the media target the upper half. Some upper class folk do get asthma or TB, but they are quickly treated and rarely die of these diseases. The millions who die come from the bottom half, lacking access to doctors and medicines. They die so regularly in millions that their deaths are no longer considered news.

Some people claims that in 2012, whole world will end. Stock market, economy crash, real estate burst, global warming, Drought, Swine FLU are just trailers for the real end.

To add to the effect our ministers are claiming that one-third of all Indians could ultimately be infected. Where did they get such numbers?

What we need here is cool mind not panic.
